CHOIR OPERATIONS

The choir is run by the Committee that meets 2-3 times per term. The responsibilities of the current committee are:

Maria Ramos, secretary, membership, publicity
Janet Thomas, treasurer
Beryl Curtis, fundraising
Roger Freeman, concert manager
Heather Fixter, librarian

Subcommittees can be formed and other choir members co-opted for specific purposes.

MEMBERSHIP OF MAKING MUSIC

Choir is a member of Making Music who represent and support over 2,400 voluntary music groups throughout the UK, including choirs, orchestras, and music promoters.  We hope this will provide us with opportunities to collaborate with other member choirs.

FUNDING

Choir operates under the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Adult College and the course fees are payable to the College.  Additional funds are needed for such activities as exchange visits, concert venues, extra rehearsals and sheet music.   To cover these costs we organise fundraising events, such as quiznights, and sell programmes at our concerts.

In the Summer of 2006 we were very fortunate to receive a one year lottery award of £4,400 to cover specific costs for year 2006-7.  This enabled us to have additional rehearsals outside the college term time to prepare for concert seasons, and promote ourselves by printed leaflets and posters.  Our thanks go to Awards for All for this fantastic gift.
