BARKING AND DAGENHAM ADULT COLLEGE CHOIR started in 1993 as a ‘singing from scratch’ class for students who mostly hadn’t sung in a choir before. Over the years the range and difficulty of music has broadened with a repertoire now including classical, sacred music, folk, gospel, jazz and arrangements of songs from well known musicals.  Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’, Elgar’s ‘Songs from the Bavarian Highlands’, Faure’s ‘Requiem’ and Gounod’s ‘Petite Mèsse  in C‘ have been successfully performed over the last few years.

The choir currently has a membership of approximately 35 singers of all ages.  As well as our regular concerts at the end of each term, we have performed in local community events. In 2004 were involved in a multicultural festival with choirs from all over the world at Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Dagenham and in 2005 performed at a medical conference at St Catherine’s College, Oxford.

In 2006 the choir gave two joint concerts with a choir from Folkestone, Cantores Dominicae, one in Folkestone and one in Dagenham. In addition to each choir's own programme, we performed together two magnificent pieces: Mozart's Venite Populi, written for two choirs, and Handel's Zadok the Priest, accompanied by the Community Music Service Senior String ensemble.

There are no auditions and we welcome anyone with an interest in singing, an ability to sing parts in tune and a commitment for regular rehearsals and concerts.  If you are interested in joining come along to a rehearsal at the Adult College.  We meet at 7.15-9.00pm each Wednesday during term time.
